The story
Historical context
The Jarkurgan Minaret was built in the early twelfth century and is associated by inscription with the architect Ali ibn Muhammad of Serakhs.
Archaeological and architectural evidence
Its fluted, corrugated shaft differs from the cylindrical profiles of many Central Asian minarets. Brick pattern, inscription and the surviving lower portion reveal sophisticated design despite the loss of the original top.
Interpretation and uncertainty
Restoration affects parts of the monument. Visit it as an architectural work and a surviving fragment of a wider settlement, not as a complete untouched tower.
Why it matters
Visit Jarkurgan Minaret to understand a distinct layer of Termez and the wider Surkhandarya Region.
