The story

Origins and historical context

Jahangir died young in 1376, before his father’s empire reached its greatest extent. His death prompted a major dynastic memorial project in Shakhrisabz.

Architecture and evidence

The tall domed chamber is the principal surviving monument of Dorus Saodat. Its scale reflects the political importance attached to dynasty and succession.

Change, conservation and interpretation

Because the wider ensemble is fragmentary, interpret the mausoleum together with archaeological evidence and the adjacent structures rather than as an isolated complete tomb complex.
