The story

Origins and context

The Tuman Aqa buildings were created around 1404–1405 and are associated with a wife of Timur. The complex combines memorial and religious functions rather than standing as a single isolated tomb.

Architecture and meaning

Its blue-toned mosaics, inscriptions and proportion belong to the mature Timurid phase of Shah-i-Zinda. The ensemble helps explain how patronage by elite women shaped the necropolis.

Later history and interpretation

Because several spaces are connected, observe thresholds and sightlines as well as individual decorative panels.
