The story
Origins and context
Abu Mansur al-Maturidi, who died in the tenth century, became one of the foundational theologians of Sunni Islam. His thought developed in the intellectual environment of Transoxiana.
Architecture and meaning
The memorial marks the cemetery tradition associated with him, but the present architectural complex is modern and should not be described as an intact tenth-century building.
Later history and interpretation
Approach it primarily as an active place of remembrance and scholarship. Current access and religious etiquette take priority over sightseeing expectations.
