The story
Origins and context
Abdi-Birun is associated with the same sacred geography as Abdi-Darun, but “birun” indicates a position outside the older city. The surviving ensemble developed through several phases.
Architecture and meaning
Its khanqah, courtyard and funerary associations illustrate the relationship between pilgrimage, Sufi institutions and the landscape around Samarkand.
Later history and interpretation
Because it lies away from the central walking route, check current access locally and combine it with nearby southern monuments rather than assuming standard museum arrangements.
Why it matters
Visit Abdi-Birun Complex to understand a distinct layer of Samarkand’s history and visitor landscape.
