The story

Origins and historical context

Ota Darvoza marks the western approach to the inner town. The historic gate was lost in the twentieth century and the present structure is a reconstruction, an important distinction when reading its appearance.

Architecture and use

Today it frames the famous view toward Kalta Minor, Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasa and Kunya Ark. Its role as an urban threshold remains clear even though the fabric is renewed.

Later history and interpretation

Use the gate to orient the walking visit and compare the compact inner town with the broader Dishan Kala outside.
