The story
Origins and historical context
Kutlug Murad Inaq commissioned the madrasa in 1804–1812. It is often identified as one of Khiva’s earliest two-storey madrasas and helped establish the monumental character of the eastern quarter.
Architecture and use
The plan includes a courtyard, cells and teaching spaces. A well within the complex is tied to the practical needs of students and the neighbourhood.
Later history and interpretation
Compare its brick and tile treatment with the later Allakuli Khan buildings nearby; the short walk reveals architectural change within a few decades.
Why it matters
Visit Kutlug Murad Inaq Madrasa to understand a distinct layer of Khiva and Khorezm beyond a checklist of façades.
