The story
Origins and historical context
Kosh Darvoza, the Double Gate, is one of the most recognisable remnants of Dishan Kala’s nineteenth-century gate system. Two passages reflect the movement needs of an active outer town.
Architecture and use
Its location away from Itchan Kala makes it valuable for understanding the scale of historic Khiva and the partial survival of the outer walls.
Later history and interpretation
Road conditions and traffic shape the visit. Observe from a safe position and combine it with other Dishan Kala architecture.
Why it matters
Visit Kosh Darvoza to understand a distinct layer of Khiva and Khorezm beyond a checklist of façades.
