The story
A strategic hill
The fortress occupies high ground immediately above the spring and old settlement. From here, the relationship between water, cultivated land and the surrounding dry landscape becomes clear.
Tradition of Alexander
Popular accounts associate the fortress with Alexander the Great. The site has older and later layers, so the association should be presented as tradition rather than a simple construction date.
Reading earthworks
Much of the experience is topographic: walls, slopes and eroded remains are easier to understand when read against the town below rather than as a complete standing castle.
A paired Nurata visit
Combine the hill with Chashma below. They are separate searchable places but belong to one practical walking area and one historical landscape.
Why it matters
The viewpoint turns Nurata’s spring and settlement pattern into a readable landscape while preserving the archaeological character of the ruins.
