The story

Origins and historical context

The institution traces its origins to the Tashkent Public Museum founded in 1876 and later passed through several reorganisations. Since 1992 it has carried its present national title.

Architecture, collections or landscape

Collections include archaeology, numismatics, ethnography and historical material from across Uzbekistan. Displays can change and should not be reduced to one famous object.

How to experience it

The current building is itself part of Tashkent’s modernist heritage. Allow time for the architecture as well as the exhibitions.
