The story

Historical context

Zarautsoy is known for rock paintings in mountain shelters. Dating and interpretation have changed through scholarship, and the panels may represent more than one phase rather than one single prehistoric event.

Archaeological and architectural evidence

Uzbekistan placed the site on its UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2008. Tentative status is not World Heritage inscription.

Interpretation and uncertainty

Rock art is extremely vulnerable to touching, wetting, tracing and graffiti. Current access, border or protected-area conditions must be confirmed before travel.

Visiting responsibly

No map marker is shown because a verified public trailhead or visitor entrance has not been established for this catalogue.
